Sweet Potato Browned Butter Honey Cake
Browned butter adds extra flavor to this delicious cake.

- 1 cup butter
- 1â…“ cup packed dark brown sugar
- â…“ cup honey
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 tsp. real vanilla extract
- 2 tsp. freshly grated orange peel
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2Â˝ tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
- Â˝ tsp. kosher salt
- 2 cups sweet potato, peeled and grated (about 1 large potato)
- 3Â˝ cups confectionerâ€™s sugar
- 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
- 2 Tbsp. real maple syrup
- ÂĽ tsp. kosher salt
Heat oven to 350Â°F. Generously grease and flour 13â€ťx9â€ť baking pan. In medium skillet, over medium-high heat, melt butter until foamy and golden brown, about 6-8 minutes (butter reduces to Âľ cup melted and browned); let cool.
In large bowl beat brown butter, brown sugar, honey and eggs until creamy (1-2 minutes). Add orange juice, vanilla and orange peel; continue beating until well mixed.
On low speed add flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; continue beating for 1 minute. Stir in sweet potato. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
Combine all frosting ingredients in large bowl; beat until spreading consistency (1-2 minutes). Frost cooled cake. Garnish as desired with freshly grated orange peel. Makes 18 servings.
Tip: Make in 2 9â€ť baking pans for a beautiful birthday cake. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
